Hi there! My name is Devilfern, a.k.a Fern. I use she/her. I'm a freelance illustrator and game artist and I play Final Fantasy 14. This is my information page about my roleplay characters. Quick notes about me and my roleplaying style:
I prefer proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation with my roleplay partners. I'm not going to be a jerk about a few mistakes here and there, but I'd like to be able to read your writing with pleasure!
Mature themes are fine with me--but a garish amount of NSFW material thrown around in RP gets old for me, fast.
18+ friends only, please.
I'm game for romance plots, friendship plots, family connections, rivalries, past allegiances--I'm happy to give any story a try! Just reach out. Not everything is guaranteed to work, of course!
I love my characters and give them a lot of care and attention, as I'm sure you do too! However, IC does not equal OOC and I want my roleplay buddies to understand that boundary.
I use Mare! Thank the glorious heavens for Mare. If we become buddies, I will be happy to share my code with you.
Twitter: @DevilfernDraws
Discord: Devilfern#5881
I play on Crystal, primarily on Balmung (I know). Tsuneaki Nagao is my main, so if you see me around, feel free to whisper!
I take art commissions! Visit my commissions carrd or check out my twitter to see more!
"Life is pain. Anyone who says different is trying to sell you something." - The Princess Bride
Khuril's talent for destructive magic was fostered from an early age. He traveled the world as a mercenary before coming to Aldenard and discovering his hidden potential--and passion--for healing, especially the mind.
❖ Age: 36
❖ Gender: Male
❖ Birthdate: 19th Sun of the 1st Astral Moon (January 19th)
❖ Occupation: Healer, therapist, ex-mercenary
❖ In-Game Class(es): Astrologian, Summoner
❖ Languages: Common, Hingan and Auri (Xaelan dialect)
❖ Birthplace: Azim Steppe

❖ Alignment: Neutral Good
❖ Any Xaela of the Dotharl clan might know Khuril or his beloved grandmother who raised him, Chabi❖ Khuril spent about ten years roaming the world as a mercenary before traveling to the Black Shroud, where he is now. Other characters who were involved in mercenary work might have run into him❖ Characters involved in the healing arts, or who previously studied meditative practices, may have met Khuril❖ Characters who have had struggles with mental illness in the past may be former patients of Khuril's. (We'd have to discuss this in some detail so we're both comfortable!)

"Life is pain. Anyone who says different is trying to sell you something." - The Princess Bride
Strengths - cheerful, wise, mellow, bon-vivant, art lover, gracious, etherealWeaknesses - detached, overly analytical, holier-than-thou, unreadable, walled-off
With Friends - sweet, teasing, thoughtful, lazy, humorous, perceptive, willing to challenge, conversationalistWith Lovers - guarded at first, slow to engage deeply...
once hooked - possessive, passionate, romantic, ride-or-die dramaticWith Enemies - relentless, patient, seething, observant, cold, warlike (when pressed)
Common Knowledge - Khuril Dotharl once worked as a mercenary on the Steppe, but decided that he preferred healing to destruction. He left Othard for Aldenard some while back to study in Gridania and other cities under diverse teachers about psychology and spiritual magics.
Uncommon Knowledge - Khuril's earliest days marauding among the Dotharl were near legendary. Enemies of his tribe came to know him as the "Devil with Blue Eyes". He wielded black magics with unrelenting ferocity and ruthlessness.
One day, something within him changed. He had his fill of slaughter and ruin--perhaps it was due to his grandmother's passing. He left the lands of the Dotharl and ventured around the Steppe as a mercenary for hire. He chose to develop his hidden penchant for healing magics, which his grandmother had always quietly encouraged. He found that he truly loved healing, not harm.
Talking to his patients as he worked with him led to a great curiosity for the inner workings of the mind and the heart.
10 years ago, Khuril left the Steppe, and traveled to Eorzea to broaden his horizons further. He has since studied at the Conjurer's Guild, and under anyone who will teach him the scientific, magical, and spiritual maze of the mind.

"Life is pain. Anyone who says different is trying to sell you something." - The Princess Bride
“Her own thoughts and reflections were habitually her best companions.” -- Jane Austen, Mansfield Park
Fuuko grew up a sheltered, middle-child of a wealthy aristocratic noble family in the Hingan capital of Bukyo. Often overlooked in favor of her brothers, she spent her time honing her skills in alchemy and flower arranging.
At least, that was as far as her father knew. She was in fact, studying poisons and secrets of the shinobi.
❖ Age: 21
❖ Gender: Female
❖ Birthdate 18th Sun of the Fourth Umbral Moon (August 18th)
❖ Occupation: Socialite, researcher, and assassin
❖ In-Game Class(es): Ninja, monk, alchemist
❖ Languages: Common, Hingan and Auri (Raen dialect)
❖ Birthplace: Hingashi, near Bukyo
❖ Relationship Status: Single
❖ Orientation: Bisexual
❖ Alignment: Lawful neutral
❖ Hingan nobility, socialites, or wealthy merchants might be familiar with Fuuko or her family.❖ Alchemists, perfumers, or herbalists may have professional connections with Fuuko. She has hidden her studies from her family under the guise of a healthy interest in ikebana--the noble art of flower arranging.❖ Ninjas will have a connection to Fuuko through their underground network (but please be patient with me as I'm still getting familiar with the lore!)

“Her own thoughts and reflections were habitually her best companions.” -- Jane Austen, Mansfield Park
Strengths - elegant, bookish, analytical, sophisticated, erudite, well-spoken, headstrong, stylish, classyWeaknesses - stubborn, cold, willful, tactless, lone-wolf, brazen, out of touch, blunt, gossipy
With Friends - sassy, witty, pedantic, sarcastic, dry, shrewd, thoughtfulWith Lovers - shy and slow to trust; gets flustered easily but endeavors to hide it; struggles to marry logic with emotion; eventually deeply loyal and affectionateWith Enemies - vindictive, careful, subtle, manipulative, frigid, secretive, deadly
Common Knowledge - Fuuko Nagao is a fine young lady: well-spoken, well-educated, accomplished. Though her family was greatly shamed when her elder brother Tsuneaki was disowned and disinherited by the Nagao family, her father and her younger brother have fought hard to retain the reputation of the ancient title. They leaned heavily on Fuuko to show Kugane's society that the Nagao reputation is still sterling.
Uncommon Knowledge - While Fuuko has been pressed by her father and younger brother to uphold the family reputation, she is far from the "perfect" young lady that they want to show off to the world. She spent most of her youth ignored by her father, and her mother died shortly after Hidaka, the youngest sibling, was born. Unsupervised and ill-content, Fuuko put her considerable talents into studying the ways of the shinobi, guided by her beloved nursemaid Chie.
Forced to conform most of the time to her family's strict rules, Fuuko enjoyed sneaking out to study. Tsuneaki acted out by rebelling openly, Fuuko rebelled secretly. Her study of poisons flourished behind the smokescreen of "gardening" and flower arranging.
Since Hidaka has recently pushed her onto the marriage market, she has finally snuck out from under his control and traveled to meet a potential groom who proved to be a potential employer--one Ning Xiong, a Yanxian nobleman of uncertain parentage who had inherited a vast fiefdom of his own.

"Someone has to speak up for them as has no voices." Terry Pratchett, The Wee Free Men
Kiratai had a happy but isolated childhood in a small offshoot of the Mol tribe. Though steeped in religion and tradition, he yearned to see more of the world. His penchant for summoning magics acquainted him with aether spirits early on, and allowed him to form a deep friendship with his carbuncle Daichin. He has recently traveled to Aldenard with his friend Munkha, who does her best to keep an eye on him and keep him out of trouble.
❖ Age: 21
❖ Gender: Male
❖ Birthdate 15th Sun of the Second Umbral Moon (April 14th)
❖ Occupation: Healer and adventurer
❖ In-Game Class(es): Scholar
❖ Languages: Common and Auri (Xaelan dialect)
❖ Birthplace: The Azim Steppe
❖ Relationship Status: Single
❖ Orientation: Undetermined
❖ Alignment: Chaotic good
❖ Spiritually connected characters may find a kindred soul in Kiratai. He is always willing to learn from others, or just to discuss aetherical matters.❖ Healers, doctors, alchemists, or those who serve their communities may find a willing assistant for a day (or a few) in Kiratai!❖ Daichin, Kiratai's carbuncle companion, is a small and furious menace. Does your character have a scrungly little friend, too? Playdate!❖ Kiratai is doing his best to be a good young follower of Nhaama's teachings, but he's exploring a brand new land in Aldenard. Perhaps there's an opportunity to explore somewhere not sanctioned by his strict elders...

"Someone has to speak up for them as has no voices." Terry Pratchett, The Wee Free Men
Strengths - upbeat, friendly, energetic, spiritual, acrobatic, driven, curious, sensitive, insightful, heartfelt, intuitiveWeaknesses - distractable, naive, willful, unrefined, childish, overeager, impatient, foolhardy
With Friends - fun-loving, adventuresome, jokester, bouncy, sweet, talkativeWith Lovers - awkward but earnest; show-off and peacocks to impress; flighty but intense; prankster; affectionate and sweetWith Enemies - doesn't hold a grudge; attempts to reconcile; forgiving, patient, honest, concerned
Common Knowledge - Kiratai grew up among the Mol tribe as a priest-in-training, a devotee of Nhaama. He would travel around with other priests to the nearby tribes to assist them when they had injured members in exchange for goods and services for his own tribe.
Recently, Kiratai traveled to Eorzea with his friend Munkha, on a kind of "year abroad" to train up his magical skills in order to serve his tribe more effectively.
Uncommon Knowledge - Kiratai spent his childhood and early youth in complete devotion to his church. He grew up distant from his parents and siblings, as his connection to the spirits was significant enough that the elder priests sought to hone it as much as possible. The devotion of his particular branch of the Mol people is intense and all-encompassing.
When Kiratai was nine years old, he summoned Daichin, his ferocious and (somewhat) hate-filled little carbuncle. Daichin is a powerful conduit for Kiratai's magic, and his summoning impressed Kiratai's elders further. He was further cut off from his family and other children, and spent most of his time in prayer or in service. Munkha is his only real friend of his age, and she serves mostly as his bodyguard.
Kiratai's journey to Eorzea is of utmost importance to his church, and Kiratai is determined to grow in power and knowledge as much as he can so that he can serve and protect his people.
A Note on Daichin -- He may or may not actually be a tiny god trapped in a carbuncle's body. He certainly believes so, but Kiratai is not concerned about this at all. Whatever the case, on his own, Daichin is relatively harmless, but he has been known to summon some pretty terrifying visions and spectres when Kiratai is threatened.

"She had been a comet; and her blazing descent through dark skies had been plain for all to see.”
-- Susanna Clarke, The Ladies of Grace Adieu and Other Stories
Strengths - elegant, vivacious, engaging, friendly, intelligent, musical, dedicated, charming, practical, bon-vivantWeaknesses - secretive, uncompromising, stubborn, hot-heated, holds grudges, forceful, unscrupulous
With Friends - affectionate, fun-loving, inspiring, the life of the party! With Lovers - loyal, warm, deeply caring, protective, sensitive, thoughtfulWith Enemies - Machiavellian, shrewd, competitive, vicious under a veneer of courtesy
Common Knowledge - Nabiki is an enterprising young woman with budding magical talent, newly arrived in Gridania with her baby boy Kiyoteru. She and her lover Tsutomu left Kugane together while she was pregnant, heading for Ishgard where Tsutomu would have employment as a smith in the restoration of the Empyreum. Tsutomu was killed by bandits on the road, and Nabiki was lost to grief--but she managed to overcome it and get back on her feet in Ishgard. There she met Boniface Chanceux, a noble lord of prestigious pedigree, who fell hard for our fiery maiden and pledged to marry her. They wed, and shortly afterwards Félix Kiyoteru Chanceux was born.
Unfortunately Boniface was not long for this world. He fell ill while he and Nabiki were on their honeymoon, and shook off this mortal coil before his adopted son was a month old.
Now, two years later, Nabiki is on her own, having inherited her late husband's fortune, but still mourning his loss.
Uncommon Knowledge - Most of the story above is not true.
Nabiki was born and raised in Kugane, but spent her life training to become an oiran, the highest rank of courtesan in Kugane's clandestine entertainment district. She was the favorite of many clients, but eventually became the exclusive lover of one Tsuneaki Nagao, the playboy princeling of one of the 12 High Houses of Raen nobility. When she became pregnant with his child, however, Tsuneaki was suddenly nowhere to be found--and Nabiki had had enough.
She took her life into her own hands and made for Ishgard, where she did charm one Boniface Chanceux. They fell madly in love, and Nabiki managed to spark quite the craze for Othard-style fashion in Ishgard for a time. However, Nabiki's past caught up with her in the form of her brother, Inori. Jealous for her starting a new life and new family without him, he murdered Boniface and kidnapped Nabiki. It was only through Tsuneaki (desperate to make up for being a deadbeat dad) and his friends and Nabiki's own discovery of her own latent magical talent that she managed to free herself and reunite with her baby.

"I used to think that if I cared about anything, I would have to care about everything, and I'd go stark raving mad." - Ever After
Tsuneaki is a noble-born Raen with charming manners and quick wit. For most of his life he was nothing more than a rich layabout and playboy, but his family excommunicated him over a misunderstanding involving a young lady. He now runs a small, artisan blade forge out of the Black Shroud.
❖ Age: 24
❖ Gender: Male
❖ Birthdate: 21st Sun of the 4th Astral Moon (July 21st)
❖ Occupation: Bladesmith and swordsman
❖ In-Game Class(es): Samurai, Blacksmith, Dragoon
❖ Languages: Common, Hingan and Auri (Raen dialect)
❖ Birthplace: Hingashi, near Bukyo
❖ Relationship Status: Single
❖ Orientation: Bisexual
❖ Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
❖ Tsuneaki has many ties to Othard and Hingashi, and could have met many characters who originate from there, especially nobles, Raen, and super especially noble Raen.❖ Tsuneaki had a very misspent youth. Characters who have had shady dealings in their past--on the more 'let's get wasted and party' side of things--may have common ties with Tsuneaki.❖ Anyone involved in the mining or smithing industry could easily meet Tsuneaki in his business these days.❖ Merchants in Gridania or the Black Shroud at large may run into Tsuneaki.

"I used to think that if I cared about anything, I would have to care about everything, and I'd go stark raving mad." - Ever After
Strengths - creative, vivacious, clever, witty, affectionate, passionate, innovative, determined, perceptiveWeaknesses - self-absorbed, insecure, dramatic, flakey, addictive, lazy, emotional, volatile, sensitive
With Friends - engaging, flirtatious, humorous, dry, thoughtful, keen, magnetic, vainWith Lovers - slow to trust, but eventually affectionate; liberal with praise; shows love with gifts; much more likely to be physically tender in private than in public; needy; eventually deeply devoted (he falls hard)With Enemies - petty; holds grudges; outwardly incredibly courteous and polite; vindictive; volatile; conniving
Common Knowledge - Tsuneaki arrived in Eorzea two years ago, after a disagreement with his family in Kugane. He had always wanted to pursue the art of bladesmithing, and so after spending some time in Limsa Lominsa and Ul’dah, he traveled to Gridania and to establish his own forge. Gridania may not seem the most likely place to begin an Eastern-style blade forge, but Tsuneaki’s rationale is that he wanted to practice his art in a peaceful atmosphere where he wouldn’t be disturbed. About a year ago, his baby son Kiyoteru came to live with him, and he’s been caring for him as a single father ever since. Kiyoteru will sometimes be with him on market day when he can’t find a sitter.
Uncommon Knowledge - Tsuneaki’s talent for and love of smithing was discouraged by his father, who told him that such activities were “below the station of a noble”. Tsuneaki tried to study in secret, but was found out, and punished. He rebelled afterwards by becoming a wastrel party-boy, spending the family gil on drugs and alcohol, and engaging the services of the beautiful courtesan of Kugane, Nabiki Suzuhara. Nabiki and Tsuneaki formed a true friendship, despite their “business”. However, when Nabiki accidentally became pregnant, Tsuneaki was nowhere to be found.Lord Nagao had suffered a mild stroke, and had called Tsuneaki home to give him a talking to about taking on the role of head of the family. He’d found Tsuneaki wanting in almost every way, and utterly disappointed with his son, decided to disinherit him in favor of his youngest child, Hidaka. Overwhelmed, Tsuneaki went on days-long bender. Unable to find him, Nabiki fled to Eorzea to start a new life.Tsuneaki has since followed Nabiki to Eorzea, disinherited by his family, but determined to make something better of himself. He has since found her and met his baby son Kiyoteru. He and Nabiki are still working out their relationship, but so far are on friendly terms and raising the baby together.
